Bichectomy F.A.Q

Bichectomy is a cosmetic surgical procedure that aims to reduce the size of Bichat's balls, which are pockets of fat located in the cheeks.

People who have full, round cheeks and wish to achieve a slimmer, more angular appearance may be good candidates. However, it is important to discuss with a plastic surgeon whether this procedure is appropriate for you.

Bichectomy is usually performed under local anaesthetic with sedation. The surgeon will make small incisions inside the mouth and remove some of the Bichat balls. The incisions are then sutured and the patient is allowed to go home the same day.

Recovery from a bichectomy is usually quite rapid. The patient may experience slight pain and swelling of the cheeks for a few days, but can usually return to work and normal activities within 3 to 5 days of the procedure.

Yes, the results of bichectomy are usually permanent, as the removed Bichat balls do not grow back. However, it is important to maintain a stable weight to prevent the cheeks from regaining fat and to maintain the results in the long term.
